Stop Smoking Options For several years (since early in 2007) I have written about the risks of using Chantix (Champix), Zyban (Wellbutrin) and several other drug focused methods to help stop smoking. In a report I listened to the other day on NPR one user put up with Chantix induced anxiety for well over a year and was prescribed additional drugs to help with iatrogenic side effects. I use the word iatrogenic because the physician did cause the patient's anxiety by prescribing a very risky drug, and may have caused additional problems related to secondary prescription. At no time during this report did NPR mention that natural methods do exist to help you be successful in your effort to stop smoking. This isn't uncommon as in recent years NPR has adopted the mainstream drug-only approach to health mentality. To me this is similar to Prevention magazine accepting advertising from Big Pharma. Things being what they are, if you would like to quit smoking and do not wish to use risky pharmaceuticals here is some information you may wish to consider. Generally when I work with a person who wants to stop smoking I encourage them to start using vitamin C with each cigarette and to start switching to cigarettes that have no addictive additives added. Examples would be American Spirit or tribal brands with no additives. I conduct a food and lifestyle interview and follow this with an explanation of options to help the person select a remedy or approach that is the closest to the persons situation. The goal here is to help the person be successful. Because success is the goal I do not rule out the use of nicotine patches, although I do not endorse using the patches and smoking at the same time. Nicotine withdrawal is difficult at best but so is cessation of the additive substances in tobacco products. I often encourage clients to do some form of cleansing, or if possible, utilize far-infrared sauna. Increasing fluid intake is helpful to keep flushing toxins as is the possibility for the need of liver, kidney and or bloodstream cleansing herbs. Support for nicotine withdrawal include options from herbal liquids, homeopathic remedies, flower essences, nutritional support, or light-energy based remedies and tobacco withdrawal hydrotherapy soaks. If you would like assistance with your efforts to stop smoking, please contact us for more information or to schedule an appointment. There is a cost for the initial interview; products and on-going counseling are additional. For more information please go to Natural Health News and type in Chantix in the search window.
