A precise Letter to the Editor from the London Daily Mail: "How did we get to the point at which our Government can no longer protect its electorate from a totally untried & potentially disastrous technology? Compare the EU's decision that it cannot prevent GM production because "there is no proof that harm will ensue" with it's willingness to adopt a Draconian policy in the guise of the "positive list" to prevent the sale of food supplements "until proven safe."
"POLLUTION PERIL AT HOME WORSE THAN OUTDOORS" - Indoor pollution can endanger health. High cancer & allergy rates are linked to constant exposure to harmful chemicals & gases from household goods & office equipment.
Their conclusions come 3 months after a Govt.-backed inquiry called for a ban on 1000s of untested chemicals in household products. Computers, carpets, paints & plastics all release toxic chemicals. Levels of benzene, a major cause of leukaemia, were twice as high indoors. Some buildings materials contain radon & asbestos. Dr. Dimitrius Kotzias led the study.
To DEET or Not to DEET
DEET or diethyl-metatoluamide, can cause an array of health problems ranging from dizziness to death. After application to the skin DEET is absorbed into the bloodstream, and remains up to several months or more depending on one's ability to detoxify. Side effects may include rashes, skin eruptions, nausea, dermatitis, scarring, muscle cramps, irritability, lethargy, cerebral swelling cardio-respiratory arrest, and fatal encephalopathy. The American Academy of Pediatrics state that DEET is not considered safe for any child under the age of 5. Poison Control Centers reported more than 6700 reactions to insect repellants in 1995, with 4300 related to children 6 and under. A 26 year old man died after using DEET twice according to ABC news. An 8 year old boy suffered seizures after being sprayed twice with DEET. DEET is also toxic to children when it is used in the home by others. Most Public Health agencies including the US CDC encourage the use of DEET. Safe Repellant

On the other hand, drugs are mostly synthetic chemicals. There are many drugs that are life saving and beneficial when prescribed responsibly. But the massive proliferation of drugs has given rise to a statistic, which the multi-national pharmaceutical industry attempts to hide. Dangerous or inappropriate pharmaceutical drug treatments and medical interventions have now become the third leading cause of death." Why Health Care is Still Not a Human Right
In Illinois today the Governor reported that sales of ephedra will be banned. There is no mention of a ban on sales on pharmaceuticals that are known to have killed many more than just one person. 19.05.03
1. The market place of the
pharmaceutical industry is the human body.
The foundation of this industry
is the 'Business with Diseases' - not its prevention or
eradication.
2. More than 24,000 pharmaceutical drugs currently on the market -
98%
of all drugs - are without any proven therapeutic value.
3. The dangerous side effects of these pharmaceutical
drugs have
become the third fourth leading cause of death - after heart attack, strokes
and cancer - thereby further expanding the global pharmaceutical market.

Autism, vaccine link considered

CHICAGO, May 5 (UPI) -- An epidemic of autism and other brain problems in American children is linked to vaccines, say doctors, activists and one member of Congress
who met in Chicago over the weekend to discuss the disease.
At a three-day meeting at Loyola University, researchers said growing evidence indicates that vaccines are linked to increasing rates of brain problems and that government
health agencies have done little to recognize it. Autism One, a non-profit group dedicated to learning more about autism, sponsored the meeting.

"SEEDS OF TROUBLE" - BBC Radio 4, 7.1.03 reported that on the official US Government website, the US Under-Secretary for Agricultural Affairs stated "U.S. foreign policy is devoted to a longer-term struggle to gain world acceptance of agricultural bio-technology."
Fabric softener sheets are a health and fire hazard in your dryer - Anderson Laboratories’ chemical analysis of the airborne emissions of five different kinds of commonly available fabric softeners was reported in the May, 2000 issue of The Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health. Their study revealed that the fabric softeners emitted toluene, styrene, phenol, thymol, xylene, and trimethylbenzene, among other chemicals, many of which cause acute respiratory tract irritation and inflammation. Mercury can cause serious and permanent nerve and kidney damage. Mercury poisoning (acrodynia) has these symptoms: rapid heartbeat, sweating, irritability or hostility, withdrawal or shyness, memory loss, peeling of hands and feet, leg pain, slight hand tremors, difficulty with fine motor control (such as handwriting), sleeplessness, and headaches. Young children and children born to women exposed during pregnancy may be especially sensitive. Source: Consumer Product Safety Commission See resource for mercury detox information

For cold and flu - please take time to consider the following:
Your health and nutritional status are your best allies to protect you from colds and flu. Keep well hydrated, eat lots of fruits and foods high in Vitamin C and Vitamin A. You can also try drinking a hot cup of peppermint or yarrow tea while taking a hot, soaking bath. Sage tea is a good choice if you have congestion. Cayenne is another herb that many believe is helpful, as it is high in Vitamin C.
Vitamin C is actively absorbed in the intestine. Thus, increasing dose does not increase absorption proportionately. Absorption seems to asymptote out at about 350-500 mg of a 2 gram dose. The 2 gram dose can be repeated every 2-3 hours for maximum effect. At high concentrations, the half life of C in the body is about 6 hours. Thus taking, say, 1 gram an hour leads to a body inventory of 3-4 grams. To get more than this, it needs to go in through a needle. A good dosing schedule to maintain high levels is 500mg - 2 grams 4 times a day. With such a short half life once or twice daily dosing leaves you with reasonably normal C levels for a large fraction of the time.
Take supplements as you feel your system requires. A good daily dose of Vitamin C and garlic can be very effective. Vitamin A is protective against pneumonia.
Garlic contains a goodly amount of sulfur which is good for bone health. Taken in conjunction with vitamins A and C, and zinc, you will have something good to treat almost any dis-ease or infection. Garlic detoxifies and protects against infection by enhancing immune function. It also lowers blood pressure, increases circulation, and decreases blood lipids (fats).
When considering echinacea, please use it properly. It is best used when you feel a cold or the flu coming on. Fresh plant tincture is my choice and recommendation. Take the number of drops equal to one-half of your body weight, for a week or two. If you are not improving, then switch to a deeper acting herb, such as elder. It may be that your body needs additional herbal support to strengthen your immune system. If this is the situation, then contact your health care provider.
Antibiotics are not for viruses, and should not be used as prophylactics. They kill the good and bad bacteria. They interfere with B complex and especially folate, B1, B2, B3, B6, and B12, and vitamin A. Vitamin A protects against pneumonia.
Helpful nutrients for protection against cold and flu are Vitamin B complex, beta-carotene, vitamin A, C and E, CO Q10, probiotics, OPC's, and garlic. Remember to exercise and drink plenty of pure water. by Gayle Eversole.
