B-12 at Work

2007 - The May issue of herbalYODA Says! focuses on vitamin B12.  Subscribe on our homepage to access this article.

2005 - I have a new client now with this same pattern of illness.  Unfortunately her current doctor and nurse practitioner refuse to use this treatment because the "lab work is normal".

I am quite blessed to have a client with leukemia who happens to have a doctor with common sense.  This gentleman has been battling low blood counts for some time.  For a while he was doing quite well on natural treatment, but it seemed he had a downturn and needed a real boost.

After conversing with his doctor and the consulting hematologist approval was obtained for my client to have ProCrit injections (about $1200 a shot and Medicare approval is required).  ProCrit picked things up a little, although not so much in platelets which were low too.  He also experienced some side effects, so the ProCrit was held at this time.  As time went on things showed some stabilization, and the ProCrit shots became less frequent.

Procrit Drug Trials Stopped because of higher than normal blood clots. 11/27/03 NYT

All this time I had been asking my client to discuss with his doctor a trial of B12 injections.  He was already taking B complex vitamins, and it seemed a way to validate the old medical research related to low B12 in people with leukemia.

Several weeks ago he received his first B 12 shot, and the results were very good.  On the next visit he received another B 12 shot, just before going on a trip to see his family.  His lab report showed continuing improvement in red blood cells and platelets.

Since he won't be checking in with his physician for a few weeks, I'll be happy to see his next lab report.

I wonder if anyone proposed a double blind study with ProCrit and vitamin B 12?

... B 12 I'm sure is not $1200 a shot, even after all these years.

Update - 12/03

the last report received is that platelets are in normal range, Hemoglobin in normal limits but Hematocrit is stable although a tad under the low end of the range, RBCs continue to increase.
